We got up early and checked out of our hostel in Miami Beach and hit the road heading north once again. We made it as far a Georgia before we had to camp our for the night. Georgia is a beautiful state and the state park we stayed at was really nice. The following day, we drove the rest of the way to the Great Smokie Mountains National Park.
From here we hopped on the Blue Ridge Parkway that winds along Appalachians as high as 6000 ft above sea level in some places.
What's great about this scenic drive is that it feels remote but you're never too far from a town. There are plenty of exit options along the way to get back to civilization and lots of places to camp out for the night.
We started our journey early in the morning and made a full days drive out it. We stopped at lots of view points to take pictures and do some short hikes
Early in the morning it was blissfully cool. We we so grateful to finally be away from the suffocating humidity of the south.
We camped out in Jefferson National Forrest about half way up the Blue Ridge Parkway. From here we cut north and headed for Gettysburg, the site of one the bloodiest battles in the civil war.
Hanging out with Lincoln |
At the visitors center we got a map for the self guided driving tour around the battlefields. There are plenty of memorials as well as cannons that mark where the battle lines for each side once stood.
The town of Gettysburg is actually a cute little village. The rolling farm fields looks so quaint and give no indication of the carnage that took place here.

From here we drove another 3 hours to Manayunk, Philadelphia to visit our friends Sarah and Jimmy
