Moab & Canyonlands National Park

We got up early and headed into Moab to try to get a spot on one of the adventure tours. After calling around we were disappointed to find that all the tours we were interested in were full for the evening. I suppose that's the price we pay for the luxury of deciding what to do on the fly, sometimes things are booked up.

Despite not getting on a tour, we still really enjoyed our time in Moab. We went to the Moab brewery and sampled their wares over lunch. It was still blazing hot out so we went back to our campsite on the Colorado River, grabbed our camp chairs and sat and relaxed in the river.

Notice anything strange about this rock?
Afterwards we hit the road for Canyonlands National Park.

We started much earlier in the afternoon than we usually do in the desert and it was still pretty hot. We decided to do all of the view points first and save the two short hikes we were interested in for last so we wouldn't be hiking in the hottest part of the day.

Upheaval Dome
We hiked at upheaval dome, the sight of a possible meteor crash. After that we headed to Mesa Arch, a natural rock formation on the side of a cliff.

Cliff on the other side of the arch.

Bill's brave enough to walk across the arch.
