Lake Superior Provincial Park

Ghostly Islands on Foggy Lake Superior

Our first night in Superior was very chilly. We woke up to a lot of fog in the park but packed up our day bags for an afternoon of hiking just the same.

Essential bug nets, very fashionable.

We checked out the Agawa Rock pictographs, a slippery climb to the bottom of a cliff where historical Native Canadian pictures displayed on the rock face.

We followed the coastal track to a lookout point where we could see some of Lake Superior above the fog.

I took Bill back to the camp site to relax for the rest of the afternoon while I headed out to Katherine Cove to keep hiking the Coastal Track. The Coastal Track stretches 65 km of coast along Lake Superior. The whole track can be done in 5 days or shorter segments can be done as one way day hikes.

I hiked the segment of the track between Katherine Cove and Sand River and back.

The track consisted of eerily foggy beaches and challenging terrain over rocky shores.

After a short nap back at the site, we made pasta for dinner when the fog finally started to clear from the bay.

As the sun set we at last got some stellar views of the coast.

The Fog is Gone!
