Thunder Bay

Hello Folks

We left lake superior camp with the plan of heading north to Thunder Bay. For two night we are staying at a Bed and Breakfast just outside of the city.

The night before packing up and leaving was the first night we got rained on while sleeping in the tent. When I say rained I mean it poured and the thunder was rights above the campsite. So not the best nights sleep I have had. But luckily the tent kept dry.

So we headed north expecting to take in some amazing sights along what some say is the most scenic drive in Canada but alas the fog was thick. We could hardly see anything until we arrived at Marathon.

Our first stop northward was outside Wawa at an info place just to stretch our legs and mooch off their free wifi.

Along route we noticed a fellow westward traveler and decided to give them a lift along the way.
The next stop was quite a sight called Aguasabon falls and gorge.

After that quick stop we drove right to Thunder Bay. Dropped off Jonathon and went to the bed and breakfast. We met our hosts Sue and Tim. We got the tour of their place which is just their house that they converted some of the rooms for guests. We were surprised but pleased when they offered us dinner of butternut squash pasta and scalloped potatoes. After a tasty dinner we hung out with the owners.

After the tasty dinner we awoke to a breakfast of thin pancakes (not crepes) and bacon. Two of Sue's friends arrived to work on the large garden in the back. Amy and I helped out planting and breaking new ground.

We got info that near city hall food trucks set up until 2pm and that we need to eat at one called pinetree catering. We headed out looking for city hall.

Found it just in time but sold out of grilled cheese :(
Tarry Fig burger for me. Duck and chicken spring roll for Amy.

Next on the list was finding some new beer (the logical next step) so we drove to a craft brewery called the sleeping giant brewing company. I got four samples there and ended up taking three bottles home with me.
After the beer stop we had two more stops to go. Two landmarks on either side of town.

The first was a water fall called kakabeka falls. We parked the car and walked to the lookout. It was quite impressive.

Amy was feeling tired so I took over driving to the next stop. I managed to get turned around but found right way to the terry fox monument. The memorial was impressive it stands on top of the hill that you can see from the highway. The view from the top was equally impressive and the location for the memorial was well placed. We walked around the memorial for a while reading the info that the plaques offered.

After the incursion into Thunder Bay and surrounding areas we decided to head back to the bread and breakfast. While there we made dinner (Kraft dinner) and than relaxed in the hot tub before heading to bed due a long driving day ahead of us.
